Athlone Civic Centre (2001) pre BHA in association with Keith Williams Architects, London.

This library facility with associated offices consists of an open atrium, which connects all 5 levels of the building. In order to maintain the aesthetics of the architect’s design, smoke curtains/barriers were utilised to provide protection from smoke production and radiation. Brendan produced the fire certificate documentation for this project, which included cost-effective alternative solutions to typical code compliant solutions. The result presented an attractive open architectural pleasing building.

OPW New Headquarters, Meath (2005) in association with the Office of Public Works, Dublin.

This new 3,000m² extension over 4 levels consisted of a mixture of open plan offices and individual offices for some members of staff. The headquarters building will cater for a working population of 366 persons. An atrium concept has been used to act as a focus and hub of activity within the building through the use of fire engineering principles and smoke curtains. BHA produced the fire strategy documentation for this project.

North Elevation

Aldi Distribution Centre, Mitchelstown, Cork (2009) in association with Arup Consulting Engineers, Limerick & KZA Architects, Germany.

This new 54,000sqm large single storey distribution facility including an ambient warehouse, chilled warehouses and an office block. The building will be divided by fire compartment walls to separate the ambient warehouse, the chilled warehouse rooms and the office areas from each other. An L1 alarm system and a sprinkler system will be provided throughout the ambient and chilled warehouse areas including the plant rooms. The Fire Strategy includes for the recommendations of the insurer for fire walls, smoke zones and smoke venting systems. BHA advised and produced the fire certificate documentation for this project.
